Silverstone declares itself the home of British racing and with a history stretching back to 1948, there is some justification to the claim. Always one of the fastest circuits, Silverstone has developed from its windswept airfield origins into one of the most recognised in world motorsport.
It began life in 1943 as RAF Silverstone, home to a unit training Wellington pilots in night bombing techniques. At the end of World War Two it became surplus to requirements and lay dormant for several years. Its first brush with motorsport was strictly unofficial; a group of local enthusiasts held an impromptu thrash around the abandoned runways in 1947.
One of the contingent struck a sheep when it wandered onto the site, thereafter leading to the day's events being dubbed the Mutton Grand Prix. And where there is mutton, you know that there will be Kiwis not far behind...and where there are Kiwis, you know there will be an Aussie or too hoping to give them a good walloping. That is sure to be the case in this weekend's Round 8 of the Vmotorsport Hot Hatch Championship. One thing is certain - the mutton fanciers can give as good as they get!
This is to be the penultimate round, and a quick look at the POINTS show that this series is going down to the wire. Yobbo has a small 5 point buffer AssUmed who is 8 points clear of Stormy with Nightie breathing down his neck by one point. CTs and Zeus are not far behind at 6 and 8 points respectively. This thing AINT done yet!
In the teams comp, it's RedMySt 3 points ahead of the DirtyFiats so watch this space! Capteeva has a 17 point lead on OGs for 3rd. Are they safe, or is it possible for the HooverGangsters to catch them?
